Inbound Marketing: New Age Awareness on the Web
by Andrew MIllar
How do we find what we’re looking for these days? There’s a reason “google” has become a verb. Lay it at the door of inbound marketing: New Age awareness on the web. We all use search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing to find what we are looking for and, as a consequence, we invite those entities who have that for which we seek to offer us their solutions. That is the essence of what today is defined as “inbound marketing.” We, the user, are inviting the supplier to provide us with the information, service or product.
This is the opposite of traditional marketing which has been defined as ‘interruption marketing.’ This is the form with which we have all grown up: billboards, television & radio commercials, print ads, mailers, email spam, ad infinitum, ad nauseum. This form literally interferes with our thought process and demands our attention when it may be the furthest thing from what we want to be thinking about.
So what is this ‘New Age Awareness on the Web’ stuff all about? Think about it: the new age comes from the ancient world of astrology. The boomer generation has touted ‘the dawning of the Age of Aquarius’ since Hair was a hit show on Broadway in the late 1960’s. And what is the central quality of this new age? It is cooperation! And what is the defining aspect of inbound marketing on the web? The buyer and the seller are cooperating in satisfying the needs of each other. So may be these grayhairs have succeeded in passing on to us a truly uplifting quality.
So keep in mind the next time you are reading a blog like this, or receiving an email about a subject that interests you, or a video, or a webinar, or podcast, or infographics, or a forum, etcetera, that you are benefiting from this process of cooperation in the marketplace. We are witness to this dawn of The Aquarian Age in The Age of Information: Inbound Marketing: New Age Awareness on the Web.
